Help IGC support texans

Paying it forward

The winter storm in the south has impacted millions of Texans. They need supplies urgently!

Iowa Giving Crew wants to return the favor after Texans helped us during the Derecho. We are working to raise $10,000 as quickly as we can to send much needed relief and supplies to Texas. We have worked out the logistics and identified partner organizations in Texas that we are sending support to.  We need your help to pay it forward.

Welcome

Iowa Giving Crew started as a group of friends from the Cedar Rapids area who banded together to do some good in our local communities.

Our Mission:

Raising funds and marshaling resources within our collective networks to serve those in need throughout our community.

Iowa Giving Crew Sponsors Assistance Program

In collaborative effort the United Way of East Central Iowa, Metro Catholic Outreach, Willis Dady Homeless Services, Waypoint, Marion Cares, Helping Hands Ministry, Family Promise of Linn County, Linn County General Assistance, HACAP, City of Cedar Rapids and the Salvation Army  have created  the Providing Assistance to Community Homeowners (PATCH) program, which utilizes community organizations and volunteers to help homeowners with short-term home repairs.

The Iowa Giving Crew has stepped in to help fund the system. After hearing about PATCH and other post-derecho work, the organization committed to be a part of the solution.

Iowa Giving Crew will invest $40,000 they have raised for derecho-related needs into the project, along with UWECI’s $60,000 contribution. Having $100,000 to seed the collaboration will increase the ability for more individuals to be served.

These nonprofit collaborations not only help fill gaps in the community, but also provide a greater understanding of gaps that need to be filled in the future.

Those interested in the rent utility program can call 319-366-7999 to see if they qualify.

Looking back at 2020

With the support of our gracious donors, here is a sample of what we were able to accomplish in 2020:

  • 75+ vehicle "thank you" parade for first responders helping battle Covid
  • Provided educational games and materials for kids in need while they were at home due to school closures
  • Funded emergency food needs for Olivet Neighborhood Mission during Covid
  • Purchased sanitation supplies for Willis Dady due to increased needs because of Covid
  • Donated relaxation items for nurses helping battle Covid
  • Funded, built, and delivered 95 beds to kids in need
  • Funded and served 1,000s of warm meals immediately after the derecho
  • Funded 58 homes to get their electrical turned back on after the derecho
  • Initiated a free chainsaw rental program for derecho clean up
  • Organized derecho tree removal for people in need
  • Funded a program to provide 250 hours of free mental health support following the derecho
  • Provided $15,000+ in rent, utility, and repair assistance to 25+ families following derecho
  • Provided a $15,000 grant to a local non-profit, Foundation 2, to help their clients with derecho and Covid related needs
  • Donated food and supplies to people dealing with derecho
  • Purchased 50+ book kits for kids impacted by derecho
  • Funded and distributed 800+ Thanksgiving meals to people in need
  • Helped 250+ people in need with Christmas presents

In 2021, Iowa Giving Crew will continue to help our community out however we can. We are actively planning on ways to do that. Hopefully in 2021 there won't  be as many challenges to deal with. However, we will be ready to help out if there are. With the continued support from all of you, people know we will be there when needed.
