In collaborative effort the United Way of East Central Iowa, Metro Catholic Outreach, Willis Dady Homeless Services, Waypoint, Marion Cares, Helping Hands Ministry, Family Promise of Linn County, Linn County General Assistance, HACAP, City of Cedar Rapids and the Salvation Army have created the Providing Assistance to Community Homeowners (PATCH) program, which utilizes community organizations and volunteers to help homeowners with short-term home repairs.
The Iowa Giving Crew has stepped in to help fund the system. After hearing about PATCH and other post-derecho work, the organization committed to be a part of the solution.
Iowa Giving Crew will invest $40,000 they have raised for derecho-related needs into the project, along with UWECI’s $60,000 contribution. Having $100,000 to seed the collaboration will increase the ability for more individuals to be served.

Iowa Giving Crew decided early on in the pandemic we wanted to do something to help. We donated money to Olivet Neighborhood Mission, supplies to Willis Dady, as well as games, books, and flashcards to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor. In addition to these steps we have already taken, we are looking at other ways we can make a positive impact on our community during this crisis. If you would like to help out, please donate money via venmo with a note "COVID-19 Response" and we will allocate 100% of those funds to our COVID-19 response.
Iowa Giving Crew received a donation from 100+ Who Care - Cedar Rapids Metro for a total of $8,900 in February 2020. The group identified IGC as their selected cause for the fourth quarter of 2019.
With the continued presence of the pandemic and the lingering effects of the derecho adversely affecting families in our community, the IGC has partnered with Waypoint, HACAP, and the United Way to provide families with assistance to meet their basic needs in this time of crisis.
The Iowa Giving Crew partnered with a local school to sponsor a reading program. The goal of the program is to create interest in reading at an early age to help fuel the students learning experience.
