Operation Awareness is an Iowa Giving Crew focus-area supporting suicide prevention, intervention and response programming. We partner with Foundation 2 Crisis Services by matching donations up to $4,000 throughout Mental Health Awareness month each May.  

Iowa Giving Crew has been personally touched by suicide loss. This focus area allows us to support an organization that provides suicide prevention programming and services for suicide loss survivors.

Dollars raised throughout May are used in two ways: The Legacy Wall at Foundation 2 Crisis Services is a memorial wall intended to honor those who have died by suicide or dedicated their lives to Foundation 2 Crisis Services’ mission. Iowa Giving Crew sponsors tiles for those who are unable to meet the donation amount to receive a tile. To learn more about this process visit the Foundation 2 Crisis Services website. 

Additional dollars support Light the Night on World Suicide Prevention Day, held annually on Sept. 10. Luminaries are lit outside Foundation 2 Crisis Services to honor and remember those who have died by suicide. It is led by the Suicide Loss Survivor Support Group participants and open to everyone. Participants line up the luminaries outside of the Foundation 2 Crisis Services’ Downtown Headquarters and hold a brief memorial service. Those who have been impacted by suicide are invited to attend. There is no cost for people to have a luminary or attend.
